A Legacy of Excellence

With a legacy rooted in a century of Buddhist history, this institution in the Kirimatiyana area originally functioned as a mixed junior school before being revitalized in 2007 under the name Bauddha Balika Vidyalaya. Today, the alma mater proudly claims nearly two decades of distinguished history.

Through the dedicated intervention and support of the Venerable Maha Sangha, political leadership, educational authorities, and committed parents, the school was modernized and, within a short span of 18 years, succeeded in establishing a unique school culture, earning a respected name across the island.

Guided by the vision of nurturing outstanding students through quality education, the Buddhist seat of learning began in 2007 with 350 students and 30 teachers. Over time, it has grown steadily to accommodate more than 2,000 students and nearly 100 members of the teaching staff.

Although it commenced with minimal infrastructure facilities, the school achieved a significant milestone in 2012 when students qualified for university entrance through the Arts stream. The Commerce stream was introduced in 2013, followed by the Science/Mathematics stream in 2015, thereby expanding academic opportunities for its students.

Today, as a secondary school, it has earned recognition as one of the prestigious schools in the Puttalam District. The institution continues to shine through numerous national achievements in both curricular and extracurricular activities. Throughout its challenging two-decade journey, Bauddha Balika students have secured many victories. Among these, winning the National Productivity Award in 2012 and being recognized as one of the best environmental schools in the country stand out as remarkable accomplishments.

On March 8, 2022, in conjunction with International Women’s Day, the school was elevated to National School status. Since receiving this distinction, Bauddha Balika Vidyalaya has continued its journey of excellence, reaping the benefits of its new status and moving forward with distinction.
